Reimagining the purpose of education

The Avanti Brook Behaviour Policy can be found by clicking here.

At Avanti Brook Primary School, we are committed to ensuring that all our pupils achieve their very best and realise their unique potential. Rooted in The Avanti Way, we seek to nurture children who are courageous, curious, reflective and resilient, developing the virtues of self-discipline, respect, empathy, integrity, courage and gratitude.

We strive to create a safe, joyful and stimulating learning environment where exemplary behaviour supports educational excellence and where every child is known, valued and encouraged to flourish. Positive behaviour is not simply about following rules; it is about character formation, helping pupils to grow strong in themselves and in their relationships with others.

We embed a culture of restorative practice through praise, encouragement, reflection and early intervention, helping pupils to understand themselves, make positive choices and prevent issues from escalating. We place a strong emphasis on nourishing relationships between staff and pupils, and we endeavour to ensure consistency in our response to both positive and undesired behaviour.

A school ethos of encouragement and praise is central to the promotion of outstanding behaviour and committed learning. Our rewards take many forms, and it is important that effort, progress and achievement of all kinds are recognised and celebrated.

Our systems are based on promoting learning, wellbeing and respect for others. Any behaviour that prevents a pupil or others from learning, feeling safe or being treated with dignity will be addressed. While all disciplinary matters are considered on their individual merits, we aim to be fair, consistent and restorative in our approach, and we value the support of parents and carers in upholding our shared expectations.

When dealing with undesired behaviour, our staff are committed to ensuring that children understand the impact of their actions and are supported to make better choices. We sit down and take the time to reflect on the following five questions:

  • What did you do?

  • Why did you do it?

  • Which expectation did you not meet?

  • Who was affected?

  • What can you do differently next time?

At Avanti Brook Primary School, we do not have a long list of behaviour rules. Instead, we ensure our pupils understand and practise three clear expectations:

  • Be Ready

  • Be Respectful

  • Be Safe

We believe that all actions can be reflected upon through these expectations. Children are encouraged to use them as a simple and meaningful way to consider their choices, repair relationships where needed, and continue growing as compassionate, thoughtful members of our school community.
